WIP: A Love Story

12 Aug

The State of The Resurrectionists as of lunch time today:

40988 / 80000 words. 51% done!

I hit 40k last night and crowed about it a little. Now that I’m done celebrating, I’m forced to recognize that if I actually want to finish this bad boy this month, I have another 40k to write in the next few weeks. Somehow I find this more exciting than anything else. Possibly because I’m out of my effing mind, but then I’m in good company, aren’t I?

Come on, Kasabian. You’ve been good for the book so far, don’t fail me now!

For my little excerpt this week I thought I’d do something relevant. You see, it’s National Resurrect Romance Week. (Seriously. I couldn’t make this shit up.) And I just happen to have something that answers perfectly! Here we see Paul Appleby and the woman he thinks he loves– who dropped dead about twelve hours before this scene takes place:

“Anne, it’s me. Paul. I-I’ve brought you back.”

He imagined an expression of gratefulness on her face.

She presented her hand, pushing it toward him for inspection. As if it were some wondrous new discovery.

He nodded. “Yes.”

She glanced at the hand, twitched the fingers with greater ease. Then she looked back to his eyes.

“Do you remember me?” he asked.

Her lips squirmed helplessly, pressed tight together.

He leaned closer. “My darling–”

Her hand shot forward and latched on, thumb and forefinger boring hot into opposite sides of Paul’s throat. And then she began to squeeze.

Don’t tell me that’s not what they meant by resurrect romance, either. This is love, man! LOVE.

Phew! I thought you’d wandered off into Mills & Boons land with that whole Resurrect Love mojo-thingy, almost scared me as much as the whole zombie thing. Who am I kidding, the dead girl made me smile.

Zombie action! I love it :D And I had to laugh out loud at Resurrect Romance Week. That’s too perfect.

    Congrats on passing 50%!

Cate, though I do love me some romance novels (predictably enough, I like Regency…), alas I can’t seem to write them without at least one half of the equation being dead.

Cory, I know right, how could I pass that up? Thanks!

Sweet (Said as if Homer were watching an ice cold beer being pulled).

    Congrats on halfway!

Well done, Katey. A tasty mix of zombie and romance.

    Thanks, BT! I’m excited. (Sweeeeet…)

And thanks to you too, Alan. That’s just the blend we’re going for. (Who is we? I dunno. Me and the zombie in my, er, pocket.)

Aaron, yay! That means I’ve pulled the strings I wanted to pull. Thanks, dude!

Nat, too f@%king right, man. When will they learn?
