Have I got a deal for you.

23 Jul

Talking of language, sex, and violence, the word on the street (or in my inbox, anyhow) is that this whole Scripped pre-order thing might just be coming our way, oh, rather early next week. No doubt those of you who are kind enough to come around sometimes will have heard me talking about this little chapbook I’ve been working on for the early buyers. Here’s the picture Mark Deniz scanned of his after it arrived. (He got his early because he wrote the foreword for Scripped. Too cool.) Here’s another I just took:

Tales from Liberty Tree... and Northstar

I had to convince Jean-Paul to model it cuz it wouldn’t stand properly. S’okay, everything’s better with Jean-Paul. Just ask him.

Anyhow, these babies are limited run of 33, some of which have already been given as thank you gifts, but most of which still need homes. The cover was designed by the wonderful Asya Yordanova just for the project. They’re each printed and numbered individually, then I graffitied them all. The paper is absolutely friggin gorgeous. Click this thing for the larger view, because oh my god–

Title Page, Tales from Liberty Tree

Oh right, what’s in them? Well, as the title page implies, two short stories from my fictional town of Liberty Tree, Virginia.

“The Connoisseur”: in 1923, a mysterious, pretty young artist called Alvin moves in and befriends the troubled son of the richest family in town, Pel. Sex, murder, and the world’s greatest martini ensue.

“Green”: In 2008, three cousins find a strange and beautiful carving on the old family property. But the curse they wake when they take it is older still–and angry.

The latter was published in a slightly different form in Reflection’s Edge some years ago, but the former is totally new–I saved it for this book. While not related to Scripped, these stories do have a very similar feeling placed side by side. So that’s my gift to anyone who pre-orders–or orders while I still have them.

So here’s how to get your shiny freebie:

1. You do me the incredible kindness/honor/favor of pre-ordering my freaky Appalachian faerie tale called Scripped from Belfire Press this week. I’ll let you know when it’s a go, but for info, see You Can Never Go Home, the Scripped site.

2. Email me (kate AT kvtaylor DOT com)  and tell me it’s a done deal. There won’t be any invoices yet; I’ll take your word for it until they come through.

3. I put your name down for a  Tales from Liberty Tree chapbook–I’ll let you know which number just for fun, as I have an excel spreadsheet. (No, really.) But wait, there’s more! I’ll also email you a code to get it in e-book form of your choice for free immediately.

4. On release day, I go to the post office and drop your paper copy in the mail. You’ve got it however you like it.

The e-book is going to disappear before Halloween–totally a limited time thing, just because I can’t get y’all the print ones until the invoices are sorted on ship day for obvious reasons. And, as absurd as this thought is, I feel like I should mention that if I run out of paper chapbooks… well, I do have a smaller, less impressive run in reserve for cons, but that’s really it.

I’ll post it on the Scripped site and all that on pre-order day, but yeah. I’d want to know if one of you was planning to be devious ahead of time.

Free stuff. Free pretty stuff! Also murder, art, and angry plants! Yay!
